Derice Creek, passing right through Torbalı, has been polluted completely
by factory waste and turned unusable. The biggest river in the region, Fetrek
Brook, rise during wintertime, but dries during summertime. The creeks and
water systems in the district are not protected, so their sustainability was not
maintained in harmony with the built environment (Map 10). Water systems
are crucial concerning resilience against ecological systems and urban heat
waves.

The use of railway transport for contribution to greenhouse gas reduction
to increase environmental awareness and energy efficiency is thought to be
important for sustainability. In terms of transportation, Torbalı district hosts
the main arteries in the Aegean Region and İzmir, İzmir-Aydın Highway (E24
Public Highway), İzmir-Aydın-Denizli Railway, and İzmir-Aydın Highway (E-87),
which passes to the west of the district center. İzmir-Aydın-Denizli Railway
passes through the town center of Torbalı. The section of the railway passing
through the center of Torbalı is 67 km, and it has two stations. These stations
are Torbalı and Tepeköy stations. There is not a hierarchy between the inter-
city transit transportation lines, the main streets in the city, the frontage roads,
and the lower-level roads in the city (Map 11).
