GREEN DEVELOPMENT
The Paris Agreement Entered into Force in Turkey
The Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees at
the end of this century, has entered into force.
After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced at the United Nations (UN) General
Assembly that Turkey would become a party to the Paris Agreement, the agreement
was approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly. The decision on the ratification
of the agreement was published in the Official Gazette on 7 October and Turkey’s appro-
val on the Paris Agreement was reported to the UN Secretariat on 11 October. Thus, as of
November 10, the 30th day after the approval was notified to the secretariat, the agree-
ment entered into force in Turkey and Turkey became the 192nd party to the agreement.

Target Net Zero Emissions by 2050
With the Paris Agreement, which aims to reduce global emissions by at least 50 per-
cent by 2030, it is aimed to reach a net zero emission economy by 2050. In this context,
it is expected that countries will update their national contribution statements every 5
years regarding the steps they will take to reduce emissions.
