Support for Green Financing
During the meeting between Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum and World
Bank Turkey Director Auguste Kouame, the projects to be made within the framework of the Memorandum of
Understanding signed on October 22, 2021 to support the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and
how to expand the existing financing were evaluated.
Within the project packages to be developed by the World Bank for local governments, electric micro vehicles,
micromobility, increasing municipal applications in renewable energy and walking and bicycle paths were dis-
cussed. Auguste Kouame stated that they have developed projects for the municipalities that have a coast on
the Marmara Sea in order to solve the mucilage problem and informed the Minister Murat Kurum on the projects.
Kouame underlined that banks such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Euro-
pean Investment Bank (EIB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) can play a leading role for the support of other
banks in order to increase green finance opportunities.
The Importance of Turkey-UK Relations
was Emphasized
During the meeting between the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum and
the British Ambassador to Ankara Dominick Chilcott, the importance of relations between Turkey and England
was emphasized and views were exchanged on the projects carried out for combating climate change.
Minister Kurum expressed to Ambassador Chilcott that as a friend and strategic partner, they
have a common perspective with England on many international and regional issues, and that
they are pleased with the frequent high-level contacts between the countries.
