Declaration of Results will be Road Map
At the closing ceremony of Turkey’s first Climate Council, the council chaired by Murat Kurum, Minister of Environ-
ment, Urbanization and Climate Change, convened. Following the reading of the recommendations that emerged at
the council, the Minister Kurum put the 217-item recommendations to the vote. Kurum made a speech after the recom-
mendations were unanimously adopted. Thanking everyone who contributed to the Climate Council, in which signed
the proposals that will shape Turkey’s 100 years by focusing on combating climate change, Kurum stated that the final
declaration of the council would be a road map for increasing renewable energy resources, ensuring energy efficiency
and reducing fossil fuels. Regarding the final declaration to be announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister
Kurum noted the following:
“ Increasing renewable energy sources will be a roadmap for ensuring energy efficiency and reducing fos-
sil fuels. It will present us a plan to expand the clean transportation network in our country with alternative
fuels and smart transportation systems. It will be a guide for the implementation of sustainable production
and consumption systems and alternative emission reduction methods in the industry. The efficient use of
water will be a decisive document in the development of climate-friendly smart agriculture technologies.
Hazard and risk management against disasters caused by climate change, strengthening insurance and
financial systems, and protecting natural areas will be a source of reference for solutions to improve
degraded ecosystems. It will provide a way for our academy and our business world to develop carbon
capture technologies and high performance innovative material designs that provide energy efficiency to
reach low carbon production.”
Climate Council Lights
the End of the Tunnel
The “Climate Tunnel”, which was estab-
lished in the foyer area of Konya Selçuk-
lu Congress Center as part of the Climate
Council, offered the participants the op-
portunity to experience the effects of cli-
mate change dramatically. Those who en-
tered the tunnel first encountered the lush
nature, bird sounds and a bright day, and
then the images of fire, flood and drought
disasters.
The participants, who showed great inte-
rest in the tunnel, commented that the Cli-
mate Council was a light at the end of the
tunnel.
