3. Cooperation and Project Studies
3.1. Consultation Meetings
TOBB continues its consultation activities based on cooperation with
stakeholders with an understanding of common mind. After the earthquake,
the steps to be taken were determined in consultation meetings held with
domestic and international stakeholders.
In this context, proposals for carrying out studies in the earthquake zone
especially the economic measures to be taken after the earthquake, incentives
and supports as well as the legislative arrangements,were compiled from
Chambers and Commodity Exchanges in the region, TOBB Academic Advisors
in the region and TOBB ETU Faculty Members. Requests from the region
regarding economic measures to be taken after the earthquake, incentives
and supports and legislative arrangements were submitted to the ministries
and followed up. The studies conducted are as follows:
• February 6th: Trade unions and professional organizations
representing workers, employers, civil servants, tradesmen, merchants
and industrialists came together and a joint crisis desk was established.
• February 15th: Presidents of 365 Chambers and Commodity
Exchanges held an online meeting with the participation of Mr. Mehmet
Muş the then Minister of Commerce.
• February 22nd: The earthquake and its economic effects were
discussed in the Online Board of Directors of the European Union of
Chambers (Eurochambres).
• February 22: Heads of the assembly for building material manufacturers
sector held an online meeting.
• February 23: The opinions and suggestions of academicians were
obtained during the meeting held at TOBB University of Economics
and Technology about the effects of the earthquake on the economy
and the measures to be taken.
• March 3: The Presidents of the 12 Chambers of Industry within the
TOBB came together in a meeting hosted by the İstanbul Chamber
of Industry and discussed on the activities to be performed to revive
industry, trade and employment in the earthquake zone. As a result of
the consultation meeting, which lasted about 5 hours, a consensus was
reached on the implementation of 5 projects to revitalize the economy
and employment of the region. These projects are still under the
implementation process. These projects are as follows:
