Estimation of Co Emission
2
through the use of the estimated air passenger traffic figures, jet fuel demand
and related CO emission were calculated. For the calculation of jet fuel
2
demand, the following equation was utilized.
YD = RPK * FD ( 1)
Y Y Y
The abbreviations above stand for the following:
YD Yearly Fuel Demand (ton/year)
RPK Revenue Passenger Kilometers (million passengers /kilometers)
FD Fuel Density (ton/million RPK)
Y Year
After the calculation of fuel demand, CO emission based on fuel consumption
2
was calculated using Tier 1 method presented by Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC). Tiet 1 method can be seen in Equation (2) below.
ECO = YD * EF (2)
2Y y
The abbreviations above stand for the following:
ECO : Yearly CO2 Emission (ton CO2/yıl)
2
EF : CO Emission Factor (ton CO2/ton)
