were chosen as 1950 meters based on field studies. Since slab avalanches can
also occur in concave areas, areas with curvature values smaller than -0.2 were
selected as the curvature parameter (McClung and Schaerer, 1993). Upon the
detection of avalanche starting zones, dense forest areas were excluded to
obtain the final potential avalanche starting zones (Figure 8).
