Traces of Possible Ancient Life From Mars to Earth:
An Assessment of The Microbial Ecology of Salda Lake and Its Protection
The idea of protecting vitality and society against possible risks has raised
multidimensional problems related to the urban space system. It has become a
critical issue for urban approaches and strategies of different scales to respond
to the main challenges of climate change. Thus, in recent years, there has been
an increasing interest in research on urban spatial planning along with climate
factors. After the IPCC 2007 report revealed that researches on climate change
at the urban level has become a significant issue, studies on urban planning for
climate change have gained a comprehensive structure, ranging from analyses
of the dynamic relationship of urbanization models to research on the internal
systems of urban space systems (IPCC, 2007).
Certain developments and thirty years of efforts under the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have not stopped
the increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Kemp et
al., 2022). Besides, extent of climatic risks changes over the time and the
frequency of global extreme weather events increases worldwide (Abbass et
al., 2022). Therefore, it is obvious that climate change will inevitably become
a much more important problem for settlements in the near future. Here, the
cities are the areas that can be intervened to reduce the impact of existing
processes or to manage the exposure level of societies, and ‘planning’ can be
regarded as one of the most basic intervention tools. In summary, the urban
environments that increase the effects of climate change are also the spots
where action and intervention should begin.
It is quite important to develop solution proposals for the elements that
increase the effects of climate change and to develop adaptation strategies
for extreme events in preparation for the possible climate risks to be faced
by societies. However, in order to manage the climate crisis, it is necessary
to understand the current climate change process at first. UN Habitat (2014),
the Planning Report for Climate Change, has published a series of tools with
the motto of a strategic and value-based approach for experts and especially
urban planners. Accordingly, the first stage of the module is to understand
what is happening along with climate change, and it includes the stages of
the process (Figure 1).
