3.2. The Method of Study
In the study, it is aimed to investigate the urban green spaces in the design
and planning of the historical city center and urban development areas within
the scope of sustainable urbanization. In this context, twenty-five neighborhoods
located in the city center of Amasya as the sample city, are divided into three
parts based on the periods of spatial development. In order to examine the
green spaces located in the determined parts within the scope of the study,
a total of ten regions were examined, including the first part, the historical
core divided into four regions; second part, the post-1960 development area
(Sari, 2010:69) into two regions; and the third part, the post-1990 development
area (Sari, 2010:73) into four regions. The area covered by the green spaces
in these regions was compared with the planning standards according to the
neighborhood dimensions. In this scope, the area covered by the green spaces
in the current plan of Amasya Municipality (2021) was calculated.
For the standards regarding the green spaces, the standards related to parks
were retrieved from Melih Ersoy’s (2015) book “Standards in Urban Planning”
which he compiled from various sources on the green spaces in urban areas
(Tümer, 1976; Yıldızcı, 1982; Bakan and Konuk 1987; Türel, 1988 and Emir and
Onsekiz, 2007) (Ersoy, 2015:157). In addition to the planning scale, the designs
of green spaces were examined at the architectural and urban design scale. As
a result, a proposed urban green area map has been created in the context of
the sustainability and continuity of Amasya’s urban green spaces.
3.3. Distribution of Urban Green Spaces in the Sample Area
Within the scope of the study, the first part, the historical city center and
its surroundings experienced the multi-layered construction until the 1960s,
were determined as the historical core. The first part, called the historical core,
consists of sixteen neighborhoods: Hatuniye, Dere, Yüzevler, Üçler, Fethiye,
Gökmedrese, Üstün, Hacı İlyas, Gümüşlü, Pirinççi, Sofular, Nergiz, İhsaniye,
Şams, Kurşunlu and Hızırpaşa Neighborhoods. Following that the area located
in the northeast of the historical city center was zoned for construction in the
post-1960 period, Bahçeleriçi, Ellibeşevler and Kirazlıdere Neighborhood,
the urban development area of Amasya, constitute the second part. Seyhcui,
Akbilek and Hacılar Meydanı Neighborhoods, the urban development area of
Amasya, constitute the third part after the area in the western and southwest
section of historical core was zoned for construction after 1990.
