Results and Discussion
In today’s globalized world, all countries are interconnected. One
development of negative incident in a country will rapidly affect the others.
It has been revealed through the recent disasters that the current strategies
are insufficient against the shocks that occur around the world, from natural
disasters to social issues, cyber risks to epidemics. The rapidly growing
cities and the ensuing population increase expose many cities to natural or
anthropogenic shocks. Natural disasters caused by global climate change
are experienced in our country just like the rest of the world. These natural
disasters shake the whole society to its core, and all communities are affected
by the deaths and injuries of people due to these disasters. As a result of
natural disasters, people living in a region suffer serious financial damage as
they lose their homes, cars, and sources of income.
As in the case of the Elazığ Earthquake on January 24th, 2020, earthquake
risks are directly related to the geographical location of the cities. Regions with
active fault lines happen to be the most populated areas in Türkiye. That’s why,
it should be considered that the mitigation of earthquake risk is not possible,
and cities must be resilient to earthquakes. To this end, it is crucial that the
vulnerability of all superstructures such as the residences, offices, hospitals,
and schools, as well as infrastructure components should be reduced. Due to
the aforementioned earthquake, thousands of buildings in the region were
destroyed, or exposed to medium to high level of damage. Millions of liras
were granted as financial aid to the disaster victims by state institutions.
As a result of the fire that broke out on Jul 28th, 2021 in Antalya and Muğla,
a land of thousands of hectares was burned to ashes. Moreover, millions of
living creatures in the forest land were killed in the fire. Additionally, the
financial resources needed for people to make a living also burned to the
ground. Fire is considered a natural disaster due to global warming. However,
considering human errors can also play a role, serious measures should be
taken in detail.
On Aug 11th, a flood took place involving many cities, including Kastamonu
Bozkurt, Sinop and Bartın. This disaster led to a great amount of destruction.
The fire, a clear indication of global climate change, turned into a disaster due
