According to spatial vulnerability assessment; the three coastal cities with
the longest coast lines, Muğla, Çanakkale and Antalya are highly vulnerable.
The land elevation, changes in precipitation regime and the increased
overflows due to high temperatures above the average temperatures are the
other important factors. The main reason why the Black Sea coastal cities do
not turn out to be high vulnerable despite the hilly land and sloped land is the
existence of a lot of forests (Figure 4).

Figure 5 displays, İzmir, Mersin and Kocaeli, which are revealed to be highly
vulnerable in terms of economy. The existence of industrial facilities and oil
refinery facilities are the main reasons for the situation. Big industrial facilities
require logistical investment as well. In this case, the investments on both
industry and infrastructure increase the economic vulnerability of these cities
(Figure 5).
