Having different tourism types
Türkiye is home to a variety of tourism types from coastal tourism to thermal
tourism, from winter tourism to tableland tourism thanks to its geographical,
historical, cultural and logistic benefits (Ministry of Culture and Tourism,
2007). The variety of tourism suitable for any climatic conditions presents an
advantage to the country for creating alternatives.
Having different climate regions
Türkiye, which is a peninsula, experiences four different seasons. Each
region in Türkiye has their own climatic conditions, which allows the creation
of various areas for different tourism activities. (Ministry of Culture and
Tourism, 2007). This situation can be turned into an advantage for tourism
types regarding the spread of tourism activities to the country.
Developing Tourism Infrastructure
Thanks to the tourism investments starting from the 1980s, tourism
infrastructure in Türkiye is highly developed especially in coastal areas.
(Okuyucu and Somuncu, 2018). A variety of services are provided to customers
in terms of accommodation, transport, and tourism services.
Türkiye Becoming a World-Renowned Destination
Between the years, 2018 and 2019, Türkiye became the 6th most visited
country in the world. Antalya and Istanbul hosted the most tourists while
the Aegean and Mediterranean coastal cities became important tourism
destinations (Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2019; UNWTO, 2020). Based
on this fact, it can be concluded that Türkiye is world-renowned and widely-
preferred tourism destination.
Supporting Alternative Tourism In Tourism Master Plan
Tourism Strategy of Türkiye 2023 and Action Plan (2007-2013) aims to
bring alternative tourism centers in the foreground within the framework of
sustainable tourism, develop alternative tourism types rather than mass or
coastal tourism and taking tourism investments outside a certain destination
and to spread it around Türkiye. This approach is important in terms of
preparing a basis for the development of a flexible infrastructure for the
effects of climate change and drawing attention to climate change.
