Energy System Based On Fossil Fuels
Although Türkiye has increased its energy investments, it depends on other
countries for energy supply. Additionally, it meets the need for energy through
fossil fuels such as coal (Aygün and Baycan, 2020b). With the increased
temperatures, there could be difficulties in meeting the cooling energy
demand and operation costs may increase.
Domination of Coastal Tourism
Türkiye is home to different tourism types, but coastal tourism is the most
preferred tourism type, attracting the most investment. 79 (around 35%) of the
231 Culture and Tourism Protection and Development Zones in Türkiye are in
coastal regions (Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 2021a).
• Opportunities
Seasons Suitable for Tourism Activities Getting Longer
Climate change leads to a rise in both weather and sea temperatures, which
prolongs the season suitable for tourism to spring and fall. Though summer
is the most preferred season for tourism activities, with the changing climate
patterns, this preference is likely to shift towards other seasons (Aygün, 2021).
Alternative Tourism Getting Widespread Around the World
Tourism paradigms in recent years have shifted towards alternative tourism
with concerns about sustainability and local development (Sharpley, 2009).
The spread of alternative tourism around the world has the potential to bring
out the different tourism types and regions of Türkiye.
Emergence of new tourism destinations
The changing climatic conditions have negative effects on certain regions.
However, this presents some climate benefits in new destinations through
making climate more advantageous in some other reasons (Aygün, 2021).
Utilizing this potential, it is possible to bring out different destinations for
different tourism periods.
Having the Inventory To Meet Tourism Demand
Finding the tourism inventory that can meet all kinds of climates and tourism
demand creates an advantage in terms of finding new trends and adapting
to new conditions. Ministry of Culture and Tourism (2021b) defined various
alternative tourism types such as health, thermal, winter, tableland tourism,
caves, convention, hunting, golf, yachting, silk road, belief, religious, air sports,
climbing, white water rafting, diving, bird watching based on tourism inventory.
