It is important to take the indirect effects of climate change on tourism
as well. To illustrate, due to drought and the decrease in water resources,
agricultural production in Türkiye will fall as well. Owing to the decreased
food supply, it is predicted that there will be disruptions in touristic facilities.
Another sector that will affect tourism indirectly is energy sector.
With the increase in temperatures, it is expected that there will be a rise
in cooling energy demand and problems will emerge in energy supply and
cost, and tourism services (Aydemir and Şenerol, 2014). Indirect effects pose
opportunities as well as threats concerning service chains of tourism sector, its
relationship with other sectors, and the quality of infrastructure.

Opportunities and Threats in Turkish Tourism Sector Concerning Climate Change

Literature review revealed how tourism sector in Türkiye will be affected by
climate change. Based on this literature review, a SWOT analysis was made
for tourism sector in Türkiye. With this SWOT analysis, it is aimed to bring out
the strengths, utilize the opportunities, recognize weaknesses and prevent
            threats.
SWOT analysis is a means of strategical planning widely used in decision
making process. The abbreviation stands for: S for strengths, W for weaknesses,
O for opportunities, and T for threats. The analysis, also called STOW matrix
Strengths and Weaknesses represent internal factors, and Opportunities and
            Threats refer to external factors.
Strengths and Opportunities include positive factors whereas Weaknesses
and Threats involve negative factors (Gürel and Tat, 2017). SWOT matrix is
organized as in Figure 2, and adapted to tourism sector within the framework
            of the study.
