EVALUATION OF VULNERABILITY ON TURKISH
                         COASTAL PROVINCES WITH GIS

                                        ABSTRACT
Türkiye’s coastal provinces are dynamic geographical locations with rich natural resource potential and
biodiversity, offering significant economic opportunities for society. However, the effects of climate
change and the increase in anthropogenic activities put pressure on coastal areas. As these pressures
affect the ecological patterns of natural systems, the ability of coastal environments to reduce and absorb
the effects of climate change is diminishing. Ecological factors such as sea level rise, coastal erosion,
flood and overflow disasters, increase in salinity in water resources, natural disasters increase the
vulnerability of coastal provinces day by day. In addition, increasing industrial and tourism activities
due to rapid urbanization, coastal infill, important energy and transportation policies cause social,
economic, environmental and spatial problems. This process; shows that coastal resilience should be
the primary design and planning principle to guide all future development and infrastructure decisions.
Determining the vulnerability of coastal provinces in Türkiye, which has 8333 km of coastline and 28
coastal provinces, is very important in terms of resilience spatial planning studies. In this study, 28
provinces with a coastline in Türkiye; It is aimed to make a vulnerability analysis. With the support
of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a coastal information system consisting of physical, spatial,
economic and social indicators was created. The data in this information system were synthesized in
GIS. Solution proposals have been developed for coastal resilience in provinces with high vulnerability.
