Traces Of Possible Ancient Life From Mars To Earth: An Assessment Of The
Microbial Ecology Of Salda Lake And Its Protection
on the existing roads in Salda Lake Water Catchment Basin in a way to allow
green transformation in transport including the reduction of carbon footprint,
not to permit for any activities in the sensitive area to be strictly protected
except for scientific studies to take the opinion of Ministry of Environment,
Urbanization and Climate Change of Republic of Türkiye regarding any activity
to be planned for using the existing roads around Salda Lake as walking and
cycling routes and ensuring the people see the lake and its vicinity in this way,
and meeting the humanitarian needs in sustainable and controlled protection
regions, not to allow any accommodation and settlement in the coastal line of
Salda Lake that may pollute the lake.
Furthermore, for the protection of Salda Lake Special Environmental
Protection Area It is recommended to establish a local management
coordination commission with the participation of local administrations,
relevant public institutions and organisations, NGOs, relevant scientists and
engineers from universities, related engineering chambers etc. under the
coordination of Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change
of Republic of Türkiye, and to prepare scientific and technical reports every 3
months by this commission and to submit the improvements needed for the
sustainable management of Salda Lake basin to the Ministry and to monitor
the studies and implementations in-situ to be conducted in the basin.
Contributions
We, as ITU-BOUN Microbial Ecology Group, kindly extend our thanks to
Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Republic of
Türkiye for enabling the implementation of this project, to ITU Department of
Environmental Engineering and Boğaziçi University Institute of Environmental
Sciences for providing us with opportunity to use their molecular microbial
ecology laboratories in conducting this project.
