Microbialites (e.g., stromatolite) are carbonate-containing structures that
can be formed under certain environmental, geological and microbiological
conditions and provide information about the biological characteristics of the
environment in which they are located according to their formation patterns
and times (Dupraz et al., 2011). The living microbialites formed as a result
of microbial activities in an ecosystem unique to Salda Lake are the current
representatives of fossils containing the oldest known life forms of the earth
(3.5 billion years) (Balci et al., 2018) (Figure 7).
