Preface
he agenda of the world, our blue planet and habitat, is occupied by the
Tenvironmental problems such as global warming and climate change,
deforestation, reduction in biodiversity, desertification, erosion, drought,
disasters, poverty, underdevelopment, depletion of water resources, and
combating the environmental issues which are resulted by the industrialization
and urbanization encountered in recent years. These problems were regarded
as common problems that require cooperation at the global level and need to
be addressed, while solutions are being developed by all states at the United
Nations.
The concept of sustainability stands out as the key point of these solution
proposals and as a code of the new era. This concept, based on the idea
that world is a trust which is, indeed, handed down to us by our future
generations, concurrently envisages the development of socioeconomic
activities required for development, such as urbanization activities, industrial
production, agricultural production, tourism, as well as the protection of the
natural and artificial environment. In this regard, “sustainability” is a principle
that balances the relationship between the environment and socioeconomic
activities. Our ancient traditions of urbanization are built on this concept. All
studies on-going today rely on the sustainability principle which considers
the cities with their nature and environment as a whole. This principle is
also taken as a basis in urban transformation, national gardens, ecological
corridors, infrastructure and superstructure studies, which are the key steps
of the national development movement. Environment and urbanization
management model in Türkiye, which has been following pioneering
policies on environment and urbanization for the last twenty years, and
has been subjected to an institutional reform process in accordance with
changing and transforming conditions; It is implemented by the Ministry of
