on the zero waste diplomacy, social housing diplomacy and climate diplomacy,
as efficient diplomatic tools, which strengthen Türkiye’s foreign policy and are
the representatives of our studies in the global arena. In this scope, we hosted
the World Habitat Day in Balıkesir on October 3, 2022 with the theme “Leaving
No One and No Place Behind”. The World Habitat Day events, with the
participation of more than 200 persons from 110 countries, were broadcast live
in 7 different languages in these countries. Also, in December 23, 2022, in our
beautiful city, İstanbul we held “3rd Zero Waste Summit and Award Ceremony”.
Honored by the participation of First Lady, Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, we granted 48
awards for the ones who contributed to zero waste movement and, thus, to the
sustainable development. With the awards given in 12 categories, we once again
understood that all segments of society are a part of this great transformation.
We initiated the Green Transformation process in industry with the contributions
of representatives of our business world, bureaucrats and academics. We
organized two significant events in this regard. We took an important step with
the “Green Transformation Seminar in Industry” held on December 6, 2022
within the framework of the “Industrial Emission Strategy Determination Project
in the scope of Industrial Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)” carried out
under the Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Program of the
Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) 2014-2020 period. We announced
to all our stakeholders through this seminar that we will issue Certificate on
Green Transformation in Industry as an indicator of environmental production,
for the facilities that demonstrate energy and resource efficiency, the principle
of zero pollution for air, water and soil. At the Summit on Green Transformation
and Sustainable Development in Industry, held in Ankara on January 25, 2023,
we discussed the transformation process from all aspects. We have to highlight,
once again, the importance of such historic steps for reaching our goal of
increasing the National Contribution of Türkiye, declared in COP27 Meeting of
the Parties, from 21% to 41%. These studies are actually the concrete indicators
that we contribute to the policy-making of global actors such as the UN. We
extend peace, tranquility and stability through all areas in order to protect and
to sustain urbanization and the ecological system with all their elements.
We, as the Ministry, marked another valuable work as a result of this duty and
responsibility. We would like to present to the attention of our nation, the January
2023 issue of our Journal of Environment, Urban and Climate with the theme of
Sustainable Development and Environment in Turkish and English at the 100th
anniversary of our Republic. I express my gratitude to those who contributed to
the preparation of this issue of our journal.
