THE EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON TOURISM

                                   Muhammed DEMİRALP

            ABSTRACT
Climate change has become one of the most important issues on the
international agenda. Scientific studies show that the negative impacts of
climate change will be seen more severely, faster and more widely in the
upcoming period and that there is no region or sector that is exempt from these
effects. Among these sectors, tourism sector, which includes natural, historical
and cultural features, is considered as a sector that is highly vulnerable to
climate change. In addition, the results of tourism activities show a potential
to increase climate change. In line with these principles, the aim of this study is
to evaluate the relationship between the tourism sector and climate change.
In the study, it has been concluded that in order to ensure the sustainability
and climate resilience of the tourism sector, it is crucial to implement actions
for adaptation to climate change in the context of reducing greenhouse gas
emissions and minimizing the negative effects of the tourism sector. In this
paper, it is also concluded that the said measures to be taken within the scope
of the interaction of climate change and tourism sector are necessary for the
realization of the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, as well as the United
Nations 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals, to which Türkiye
            is also a party.
