               7. Analysis after Adaptive Reuse

The starting point of this study was to explain the adaptation of the historical
structures in our country in accordance with the current needs and conditions
(adaptive reuse process), and its contribution to urban resilience through the
            case of Manisa Kurşunlu Han.
To render our cities more resilient,
                 • Instead of building new eco-friendly buildings, the adaptive reuse of
historical structures will not only save energy, but also prevent raw
                     material waste
                 • Moreover, by living in historical buildings, it is aimed to build
culturally resilient societies with strong bonds to their past.
In this respect the current study chooses Kurşunlu Han as a case, explains
its location in the urban area, presents plans-cross-sections-view features, and
briefly mentions the restoration process that took place in 2016-2018. The main
topic of the study, the adaptive reuse of Kurşunlu Han, and its contribution to
            urban resilience is summarized below:
After restoration, through the adaptive reuse process, as Kurşunlu Han lies
at the center of a commercial area, the building restored its main function
by becoming a commercial complex again. This contributed greatly to the
sustainability of local business culture. The building, which is integrated to
its surroundings, is thought to have a high potential of creating a culturally
            resilient society.
After the adaptive reuse process, the economic sustainability of Kurşunlu
Han has not been tested properly yet, but all the central and local government
shareholders found it as a negligible issue, considering the sustainable social
and cultural contribution of the Han’s restoration more valuable than its funding.

               Results and Suggestions

Humankind has damaged nature for centuries, which is indicated by
the recent global disasters. Creating resilient cities that can determine the
necessary measures to protect themselves against environmental disasters
and adapt easily to new conditions determines current social policies.
Every city has its own areas of vulnerability, and depending on the economic
policies of a country, the need for a certain kind of resilience is inevitable. The
concept of resilient cities bears many different viewpoints and meanings due
to the fact that urban structure does not just consist of physical structures,
but also includes social, political, economic, ideological, and cultural aspects.
Cities are exposed to not just physical or ecological damage, but also
