2. İstanbul - Esenler District Current Situation
Esenler District is situated at the crossroads of the main transportation
routes of Istanbul, 20 km away from Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, and 15 km
away from the Bosphorus Bridge, 8 km away from Yenikapı and 10 km away
from the currently idle Atatürk Airport. Due to the rapid migration from rural
to urban areas after the industrialization in the 1980s, the district developed
without any city planning initiatives. To the North, there is a military zone, the
E-80 highway and industrial regions such as Tekstilkent and Giyimkent. To
the South lies Yıldız Technical University Davutpaşa Campus and the D-100
highway.
