            Emin Birpınar attended the 79 session of the United Nations
            International  Maritime  Organization  (IMO)  Committee  on
            the Protection of the Marine Environment (MEPC) in London.
            As a result of the session, it was agreed to designate the
            Mediterranean  as  an  Emission  Control  Zone  (SECA)  for
            sulphur oxides (SOx) and particulate matters as a whole.
            Birpınar,  who  met  with  IMO  Secretary  General  Kitack  Lim
            within  the  scope  of  the  London  Program,  talked  about
            Türkiye’s successful fight against climate change. Referring
            to Annex VI The International Convention for the Prevention
            of Pollution of the Seas from Ships (MARPOL), Birpınar said
            that  Mediterranean  countries  that  are  not  yet  parties  to
            the Convention needed capacity development in order to
            become parties, and that they asked Secretary General Lim
            for IMO’s support to capacity development. During his visit
            to London, Birpınar was accompanied by Ali Erhan Yılmaz,
            Head  of  the  Department  of  Relations  with  International
            Institutions  of  the  General  Directorate  of  EU  and  Foreign
            Relations.
