“We Will Take Determined Steps”
Minister Murat Kurum, who attended the Pakistan
National Disaster Management Meeting after the
meeting with Prime Minister Şahbaz, stated that they
discussed the work and needs to be done after the
flood and that they would take determined steps for
the damaged regions.
Flood Affected Areas Examined
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate
Change Murat Kurum and Minister of Interior Süleyman
Soylu met with Minister of Interior Rana Sana Ullah
Khan, Minister of Climate Change Sherry Rehman and
Minister of Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan
İkbal at the Pakistan National Disaster Management
Agency. Soylu and Kurum received information about
the damage assessment studies in the flood-affected
areas in Pakistan. The two ministers conducted ground-
to-air inspections in Badin, which was affected by the
flooding. Minister Kurum, in his statement after the
examination, stated that the flood disaster in Pakistan
clearly shows climate change. Stating that there is a
disaster in Pakistan where 600-700 kilograms of rain
falls per square meter, Kurum said, “When you look
at the effects, people are unable to even assess the
damage to the houses because they cannot reach
their homes”. Minister Kurum stated that the priority
within the scope of the aid in the region is to meet the
shelter and food needs and stated that the support for
the aid campaign initiated under the leadership of the
Directorate of Religious Affairs will spread throughout
the country with all institutions and organizations.
Minister Kurum continued his words as follows:
“There are over a million house damages here.
Permanent productions need to be made after
temporary housing. Currently, our Ministry will provide
both the necessary team and equipment support to the
authorized units. Subsequently, in relation to permanent
production, we have built about 4,800 houses, schools
and mosques in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Albania and
Pakistan during the 2005 and 2010 earthquakes, and
today we will be extending our helping hand again by
transferring our knowledge in cooperation for whatever
our Pakistani brothers need”.
