“Türkiye’s Support, a Sign of Friendship
and Brotherhood”
Prime Minister of Pakistan Şahbaz Şerif met
with Minister of Environment, Urbanization
and Climate Change Murat Kurum and
Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu at the
Prime Minister’s Office. Şerif, who spoke firstly,
stated that the support given by Türkiye
was the sign of friendship and brotherhood
and said, “My dear brother President Recep
Tayyip Erdoğan called me on August
27 immediately after the disaster and
expressed his condolences. He conveyed
his condolences to the thousands of people
who lost their lives”. Stating that nearly 300
of those who lost their lives were children,
Şahbaz said, “The Turkish people have once
again shown that they are with the Pakistani
people as always. As soon as the disaster
occurred, aid from Türkiye started to rain
down. These aids included both government
aids and aids sent by citizens”. Stating that
Pakistan has seen the highest amount of
rainfall in the last 40 years, Şerif said that
relief materials from Türkiye have started to
be distributed in disaster areas.
“We Will Act with the Spirit of Mobilization”
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Kurum stated that millions of people were left
homeless after the flood and said, “From the first moment, we have been trying to send aid as the people of
Türkiye. We are here today with the same understanding for the friendly and brotherly Pakistani people and
state as we take action after every disaster, as we did in Türkiye with our Minister of Interior, AFAD, TOKİ, Kızılay,
General Directorate of Construction Affairs, General Directorate of İlbank”. Reminding that 4 thousand 872
houses, schools, mosques, and social facilities were built by TOKI after the earthquakes that occurred in
Pakistan in 2005 and 2010, Kurum emphasized that today they will act with the spirit of mobilization to meet
all the needs related to damage assessment.
Soylu, the Minister of Interior, also stated that the magnitude of the disaster faced is better understood
by the whole world day by day, and stated that they have established a “brotherhood bridge” by both
air and land since the first day of the flood disaster. Minister Soylu said, “Both our government and all our
non-governmental organizations are currently engaged in a major campaign. So far, 11 aircraft have been
transferred. Two trains are on the move, the third train is being prepared. Approximately 10,000 tents were
shipped. 25 thousand food packages, as well as health supplies and medicines, children’s food, clothing
and the boots requested by the disaster center here were delivered”.
