1. Geography

Türkiye’s territory lies between 36°- 42° North latitudes and 26°- 45° East meridians. Including
lakes and islands, the actual area covered is 814,578 km and the projection area is 779,578 km .

The main geographical regions of Türkiye are Mediterranean Region, Eastern Anatolia Region,
Aegean Region, Southeastern Anatolia Region, Central Anatolia Region, Black Sea Region and
Marmara Region.
More than half of Türkiye consists of high areas with an elevation of more than 1,000 metres,
about one third is covered by medium-height plains, plateaus and mountains, and 10 per cent
by low-lying areas. The highest and most mountainous areas are located in the eastern part. The
