Settlement Model From Lowlands to Mountains
May Prevent Carbon Dioxide Toxicity
non-ruptured (without fault) plain formed by stream sediments of 160km-
away Malatya Beydağı and Bostanbaşı (Yeşilyurt) formed by landslides were
demolished; the structures on the Harran Plain of Urfa, about 200 km away,
were destroyed. 10
Figure 4. While the earthquake in Antakya caused great destruction in the plain, it did not
damage the structures on the solid ground immediately adjacent to it; however a jerry-
built deserted barn set on a solid ground is still standing as a striking example.
Within the scope of the 10-point “revitalization and reconstruction of
the earthquake zone process” announced by the Ministry of Environment,
Urbanization and Climate Change, it was announced that micro-zoning and
geological survey studies that reveal the earthquake resistance of the ground
will be continued, places where there will be no liquefaction will be determined
for solid ground, and the correct settlement model from plains to mountains
for resistant cities will be focused on. Besides the settlement model from
11
the lowlands to the mountains is an approach to minimizing earthquake risks,
in the light of current scientific information and observations, this model can
also be useful in terms of urban CO cages; on the one hand, it will cause less
2
CO exposure for people living in cities, on the other hand, it can be seen that
2
it can quantitatively and qualitatively increase the productivity of agricultural
products in the plains (Figure 5).
