Velib bicycle sharing system, which is an abbreviation of “Velo Liberte” in
French and meaning “Bike Freedom” in English, was implemented in 2007
under the leadership of the mayor of the city. Velib features as one of the most
comprehensive systems in the world for the maximum number of stations and
bicycles, the size of the service area, the number of registered users and the
volume of daily use (Transport Canada, 2009). With almost 20,000 bicycles and
more than 1200 bicycle stations, Velib bicycle sharing system has the largest
share - except for the cities with extensive bicycle sharing systems in China. It
served as an important example for other cities along with its program success
(Hiles, 2022). Figure 6 shows the distribution of Velib stations in Paris and the
            density of station frequency.
