Where Do Strong Winds And Storms Stand
In The Context Of Climate Change?
on, as far as its features are concerned, it has become apparent
that one discipline may have to cross its borders in order to
develop solutions to a certain issue.
• It is seen as a necessity to create awareness around actual experience
showing that climate change and hence strong winds’ effects are
ever-increasingly felt. Therefore, the work should be considered as a
“topic” rather than a “problem” (Karaman, 2022) just as suggested
by the philosophy of interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach.
• The aim of the research should be to define the phenomena as
accurately as possible, based on facts, without limiting it to any
pre-determined framework. Thus, the study utilized MAXQDA,
statistical analysis program, which provides an analysis of qualitative
interviews. In order to measure the perceptions and awareness of
institutions concerning storms, and to interpret their viewpoints
through the institutional representative’s observations and real
experiences, face-to-face meetings were held. Thus, a meeting
form made up of 19 questions measuring institutional awareness
was prepared. The prepared form was used to collect data from
75 institution representatives in 4 cities. The visits took place in the
th
cities of Izmir (Sept 29 2021-Oct. 20th 2021), Canakkale (Feb 15th-
16th2022), Antalya (Mar 2nd-04th2022) and Elazıg (May 20th 2022).
The data acquired from these meetings were transferred to MAXQDA
2022 Qualitative Data Analysis Program, and they were coded and
sub-coded. Later, descriptive, relational and comparative analysis
were made and the findings were interpreted. In the countries
visited, meetings were held with Meteorology, AFAD, GAMER,
Red Crescent, Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Environment,
Urbanization and Climate Change, Provincial Directorate of Culture
and Tourism officials. Also in Antalya, The City Council’s practices
were observed. These studies revealed the need and willingness for
inter-institutional workshops on storms.

• On Mar 31 , 2022, with 45 participants from various institutions,
organizations and NGOs, and in coordination with our university and
Izmir governorship, face-to-face round table workshops were held
with a focus on “storms”. As a strategical document, a brochure with
action plans was published and distributed to relevant institutions
and organizations.
• The research project mentioned in this study was utilized to assess
a certain extent of the data acquired from the Workshop. The
