CLIMATE CHANGE RESPONSIVE TOURISM PLANNING:
                  OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS FOR TÜRKİYE

                                        ABSTRACT
            Climate is an important factor in the decisions on tourism destination, tourism
            activities and tourism period. From this perspective, it is obvious that climate
            change will re-define tourism patterns in the world, popular tourism destina-
            tions, tourist attraction and tourist producing regions. In other words, differ-
            ent threats and opportunities will emerge for different regions due to unique
            impacts of climate change on various regions. For sustainability of tourism in
            Mediterranean Basin which is one of the most popular tourism destinations
            in the world and where Türkiye is located, it is critical to foresee the oppor-
            tunities and threats of changing climate on the sector and plan accordingly.
            Tourism is an important economic sector in Türkiye. Therefore, increasing the
            tourism resilience to climate change by directing future tourism develop-
            ment, investment and incentive policies considering the threats and opportu-
            nities is crucial. In this context, this study aims to determine the opportunities
            and threats that tourism sector would face by taking into account the climate
            change scenarios for Türkiye and to provide suggestions for future tourism
            planning. For this purpose, a detailed literature review is conducted and the
            findings are evaluated by SWOT analysis method. This study is important in
            terms of presenting the current and future situation of Turkish tourism in the
            face of climate change and providing suggestions.
