ABSTRACT
Smart cities, which mean cities equipped with advanced technology, aim to increase the quality of life of
individuals and offer a more livable future. The main purpose of the smart city application is to provide
savings and efficiency in energy use at the same time. When the studies in recent years are examined in
the literature, no study has been found in which theses are examined by bibliometric analysis in the field of
“smart cities”. The existing studies are old and do not reflect the current situation in a subject that has gained
importance recently such as smart cities. For this reason, this study aims to reveal the current situation and
support future studies. For this reason, 128 postgraduate theses written between 2015-2024 in the field of
“smart city” in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education (YÖKTEZ) database were
examined using the bibliometric analysis method. While examining the YÖKTEZ database, the concept
of “smart city” was selected as the search term and the search field was determined as thesis name-index.
The theses accessed as a result of the determined restrictions; languages, years, types, universities, university
types, institutes, major branches of science, subjects, research methods and keywords were analyzed within
the framework of the parameters determined and a keyword cloud was created. According to the data
obtained as a result of these analyzes, it was observed that the highest number of postgraduate theses was
reached between 2020-2024, and mostly in 2023. It was seen that the most postgraduate theses in the field
of smart cities were written at Necmettin Erbakan University and mostly in state universities. As a result
of the examinations, it was determined that postgraduate theses were mostly written in the master's field.
It was also stated that the studies were concentrated on the institute of science, the computer engineering
major and urban and regional planning.
