Perception and Expectations of Urban
Regeneration in Istanbul
evaluated by considering the relationships such as soil, structure and distance
to the epicenter of the earthquake. Those who stated that they didn’t feel
the earthquake constitute a part of around 12%. The proportion of those who
slightly felt is at the level of 34% in the cluster total. Since some of the samples
in 4th Ring covers the areas close to the epicenter of the earthquake, it is seen
that the proportion of those who stated that the objects around them were
shaken is nearly 50%. Due to the fact that most of the people interviewed in
the 4th Ring are close to their residents during the non-residential activities
such as working, education, shopping etc. the results of this region can be
interpreted differently from the other 3 rings, since there is an overlap in terms
of the place of living and the place been at the time of the earthquake. About
19% of the people interviewed within the scope of the study sampling stated
that they felt the earthquake more severely. They listed what they experienced
as falling of the objects, loss of balance and formation of cracks in the building.
