Perception and Expectations of Urban
Regeneration in Istanbul
The findings of this study, which focuses on the issues related to urban
transformation of a research based on risk perception, also reveal the
importance of risk communication and governance. The fact that there
are both risks and solution proposals that seem ambiguous regarding
the housing which is one of the most basic needs of individuals causes a
segment of society to act with suspicion. In recent risk perception studies (see
Özkılıç and Ipek, 2021), it is observed that social sensitivity is at a high level.
However, in order to transform this level of perception into a powerful tool
within the scope of social resilience, it is necessary to develop campaigns and
information meetings widespread throughout the country aimed at raising
awareness with a consideration that will appeal to all segments of society.
In this context, presenting the processes of aspects such as risk reduction,
urban transformation and structural reinforcement to society in a traceable
and understandable way through sustainable methods will help transform the
perception of risk from concern to action.
