A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE URBAN HEAT
              ISLAND EFFECT: URBAN FORM, LANDSCAPE

                         AND PLANNING STRATEGIES

                                         ABSTRACT
The population living in urban areas is increasing day by day all over the
world. Due to the growth of population in cities, social, economic, and
environmental problems are also increasing. At the forefront of these
problems is the formation of an urban heat island, which is one of the
microclimatic negativities. Especially due to dense construction, changes in
urban morphology, decrease in green areas and increase in impermeable
surfaces enhance the formation of urban heat islands. Urbanization and global
climate change, which are caused by human influence, have an impact on the
environment, society, and economy. Unplanned construction, which emerged
as a result of urban growth and population growth, reduces the resilience
of cities in this process. However, it is possible to contribute to the creation
of resilient cities with the strategies and planning decisions made in urban
transformation applications made to prevent unplanned construction. The
urban heat island, which is the biggest impact of climate change on cities, is
a long-term process that threatens living things. In this process, which affects
many areas, especially urban life, ecosystem, and human life, it is an important
necessity to produce effective planning strategies for harmony and resilience.
Evaluation of urban form optimizations is also important in this process. In
this context, the study presents a systematic review of studies that deal with
planning strategies within the scope of green infrastructure, architectural
design, and albedo parameters, focusing on urban heat island effects, urban
form, and landscape relationship in urban heat island formation.
