Türkiye has closely followed these developments, and therefore, the
theme of Digital Türkiye has been addressed in the Eleventh Development
Plan. Especially the unmanned vehicles provided in the defence industry
can be indicated as important examples of this transition. Additionally, a
strong organizational infrastructure has been established by forming a Digital
Transformation Office under the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, and the
National Artificial Intelligence Strategy has been developed in cooperation
with the Ministry of Industry and Technology (Digital Transformation Office
of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, 2021). With artificial intelligence
technology, more effective and efficient steps are taken in the fields such
as transportation, logistics, and energy efficiency, which is accompanied by
emission management, environmental improvements and economic gains.
On the other side, the development of information technologies has
made it possible to access and evaluate information and data more easily.
Environmental issues, which have a very dynamic structure, therefore
constitute an area where information systems are also widely used. The
collection, compilation and processing of environmental information also
paves the way for the development of sound environmental policies. At this
point, the Ministry has achieved a great saving in terms of time, labour and
stationery usage by ensuring that the EIA, permit and monitoring systems are
electronic (Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the
Republic of Türkiye, 2022).
Evaluation and Conclusion
The problems experienced today have almost transformed the environment
into a political tool. The concepts such as climate club, which was also included
in the last G7 Statement (G7 Final Statement, 2022), and green order practices,
border carbon mechanisms and carbon footprint, which have started with the
EU, will now be among the terms we will encounter frequently.
The growing air pollution, pressures on fresh water, and disasters resulting
from climate change triggered by increasing greenhouse gas emissions are
shifting attention to this area, thus leading to the development of policies and
promises on the basis of environment and climate.
Based on this fact, multinational companies highlight the concepts such
as water footprint, carbon footprint and energy saving in their product
advertisements, with their statements, appreciated by consumers, that the
use of recycled materials has become widespread, and that environmental
pressures are therefore reduced in their productions. We witness all these
developments as one of the factors that enable the evolution of policies in
this direction.
