EVALUATION OF SURFACE RUNOFF RISK IN THE

FRAME OF LANDSCAPE PATTERN: THE CASE OF

                        KASTAMONU CENTRAL DISTRICT

                                         ABSTRACT
Planning and managing urban landscapes in line with sustainability goals
requires a holistic approach to analyse and evaluate processes. In this
research, the relationship between the runoff risk and the landscape pattern is
discussed in the Kastamonu central district example to establish relationships
and make inferences between the urban ecosystem’s components, which
exhibit a complex structure. This approach has guided the interpretation of
cause-effect relationships and reaching sustainable landscape planning and
management decisions. First of all, the research area’s slope, aspect, elevation
and permeability layers were determined as criteria and then, surface runoff
risk assessment was made by applying risk analysis based on the analytical
hierarchy process. In the second stage, the spatial arrangement of the cultural
landscape types belonging to the research area was evaluated with the help of
pattern analysis. Finally, suggestions for sustainable development were made
by interpreting the relationships between runoff risk and landscape patterns.
