The Contribution Of Reuse Of Historical Buildings
For The Urban Resilience: The Case Of Manisa Kurşunlu Han

                 2. Readiness for Sudden Change: The ability to be prepared for a
sudden change and react to it.
                 3. Actionability in case of emergencies: Capacity to quickly recover
functionality and turn operation back to its original version rapidly.
                 4. The capacity activate stand-by teams and equipment after
malfunction: The existence of emergency resources to prevent the
                     malfunction of the whole structure.
On the other hand, many historical structures that have survived and resisted
natural disasters and wars for centuries are the most important indicators of
architectural resilience. Although these structures no longer maintain their
original functions or bear the current aesthetic values, they emphasize the
durability principle of resilience by preserving their structural integrity. In fact,
in a sense, they can be defined as resilient architecture examples in terms of
            their flexibility (Lfarakh, 2021: 10).
Another factor that provides buildings with resilience and allows the use
of buildings in different conditions is the potential to use the buildings in
different periods. Thus, adaptive reuse of historical structures to meet today’s
needs in line with the use principles and putting them to use is thought to
            increase urban resilience.

               3. Adaptive Reuse

The gradual change in urban life functions in line with the human needs
leads to the change in the functions of architectural structures. In other words,
in our country as well as around the world, some historical structures in our
country and around the world are losing their original function over time and
functionally get outdated. This situation is summarized by Altınoluk (1998) as
            follows:
“Considering that the physical features of structures outlive their
functions, even in the case of functional buildings, problems may emerge
to developments in all fields. Thus, the function of a particular building may
need to be completely replaced or updated.
Some historical structures are adapted to changing functions while a
small number of them maintain their original structures. To render historical
            structures sustainable, “re-functionalizing…”
“Rendering historical structures sustainable through living and experiencing
them, making it beneficial for the user through its daily use also ensures the
survival of a cultural and historical value.” The adaptive reuse recommended
for historical structures that have lost their original function or functionally
