Urban Growth - Climate Change
uncontrolled urban growth approaches, which may affect rural economy,
can also create social inequality. For this reason, climate change adaptation
policies should be considered along with urban growth dynamics.
Especially the direct association of land use policies with the effects of
climate change in a place plays an important role in determining local planning
principles, and poviding the security of urban coastal areas, and agricultural
areas/forests/wetlands as establishing well as climate change adaptation
policies. For this reason, for adaptation to climate change, it is emphasized
that land use planning should be done meticulously, green spaces should
be increased in the city, interventions should be made for public health and
cooling centers and natural resources should be managed. Furthermore,
local administrations are expected to consider their priorities in urban growth
projects made in natural/ open-air spaces and sensitive areas or regions which
could directly affect these areas. Urban growth in the direction of natural areas
should be restricted. In addition, the urban growth decisions to be made
in these areas, which fight climate change and provide ecosystem services
promoting benefits from nature, should be made by taking the effects of
climate change into consideration.
