AN ASSESSMENT ON DAMAGE ASSESSMENT WORKS IN
                              KAHRAMANMARAŞ EARTHQUAKE

İrşade AYDOĞDU GÜRBÜZ - Banu ASLAN

                                        ABSTRACT
Our country is located in a geography where many types of disasters such as earthquakes,
storms, floods, droughts and forest fires are frequently experienced. The most important
of these disasters is the earthquakes that are experienced or likely to occur due to the fact
that our country is located in active fault lines. Damage assessment and debris management
studies are of particular importance in the crisis management phase after the earthquake.
While aftershocks and detached earthquakes continue, the management of this process has
some difficulties in itself. With the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) published on
January 3, 2014, the Damage Assessment Coordination Responsibility was transferred to the
Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. The General Directorate of
Construction Affairs (YİGM) has been appointed within the Ministry. Damage assessment,
earthquake, flood/flood etc. It can be defined as the determination of the damage caused by
the disaster on the surrounding structures by the team formed by architects and engineers
under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change
after disasters. Damage assessment; It is not a study of determining the performance of the
building in the next possible disasters, it consists of revealing the damage to the structure as
a result of the disaster. Damage assessment is a special process that needs to be carried out
meticulously and quickly in terms of temporary shelter, distribution of aid, and entitlement to
permanent residences after disasters. In this study; Evaluations will be made on the damage
assessment studies before and after the biggest earthquakes in the history of our Republic,
with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, which took place in Pazarcık and Elbistan Districts of
              Kahramanmaraş Province on 06.02.2023.
