Young People Will Take an Active Part in Turkey’s Bureau Presidency
Making a speech at the closing of the COP22 conference, where nearly 40 special events for the protection of the Me-
diterranean were held and 17 decisions were negotiated and approved, Minister Murat Kurum said, “80% of the pollution
in the sea is of terrestrial origin. One of the prominent decisions was the updating of the protocol on land-based pollutants.
Now, through this decision, we will make revisions on pollutants and best techniques for removing pollutants in the coming
period. We have signed decisions that encourage countries to improve their national legislation on marine litter and reduce
the use of plastic. We have redefined measures against invasive species to protect biodiversity in the Mediterranean.”
Stating that they listened to the opinions of universities, non-gover-
nmental organizations and experts at all meetings and events, and
that they held the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations Environ-
ment Program with enthusiasm, Kurum noted that with the partici-
pation of Mrs. Emine Erdoğan. they held a roundtable meeting with
the female leaders of the COP22 countries.
