G. LAND
USE
The term land cover is often used in conjunction with the term land use. However, the two terms
are not synonymous. Land cover refers to the vegetation and man-made structures that cover
the surface of the earth. Land use refers to human activities in relation to the land. The term land
use is normally used in a relative sense, encompassing both the types of land cover and the ac-
tual use of the land, as opposed to the suitability or potential use of the land.
