ABSTRACT
This study aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of Türkiye’s strategies
to combat desertification and erosion in terms of achieving the Paris Agreement
commitments and the 2053 net zero emission targets. Desertification and
erosion are important environmental problems that threaten agriculture
and food security by reducing soil fertility and cause biodiversity loss. While
combating these problems, Türkiye also successfully continues to fulfill its
responsibility to be a part of the fight against climate change on a global scale.
It is very important that Türkiye’s current strategies to combat desertification
and erosion not only provide environmental protection at the local level, but
also comply with international climate commitments within the framework of
the Paris Agreement. In order for Türkiye to achieve its net zero emission target
by 2053, sustainable agricultural practices need to be expanded, forests and
sink areas protected and expanded, water resources used efficiently, and local
ecosystems strengthened. In order for these strategies to be successful, policy
development, international cooperation, use of innovative technologies, and
promotion of social participation are very important. As a result, Türkiye’s fight
against desertification and erosion is of critical importance for the country to
achieve its climate goals and fulfill its Paris Agreement commitments.
