The factory, established by the Rize Municipality for the use of tea
leftovers in the production of charcoal and electricity, became ope-
rational. Trial production was started, and tea waste was processed
and turned into charcoal. It is planned to generate electricity from
the gas that is the byproduct of the oil from tea waste in the future.

The Municipality to Earn an Additional Income of 30
                 Million Liras Annually

40 people will be employed in the first stage and this number will
increase with intermediate staff. The municipality aims to generate
an income of 30 million liras from the 2 thousand tons of charcoal
to be put on the market in the first year. Their target for the following
period is to reach 4 thousand tons of charcoal production per year.
The 0.8 megawatts of electricity that will be produced daily after the
full capacity commissioning of the factory will cover the expenses.
