Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change; was established by the Decree Law
No. 644 on the Organization and Duties of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Clima-
te Change, published in the Official Gazette No. 27984 dated 04.07.2011.
The duties, powers and responsibilities of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Clima-
te Change, which was established by bringing together the environmental wing of the repealed
Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the repealed Ministry of Public Works and Settlement
under one roof, were further strengthened by the Decree Law No. 648 published in the Official
Gazette dated 17.08.2011 and numbered 28028.
The organization, duties and authorities of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Cli-
mate Change have been reorganized by the Presidential Decree No. 1 on the Presidential Orga-
nization.
Establishment of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change; The Ministry
of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change was restructured as the Ministry of Environ-
ment, Urbanization and Climate Change with the Presidential Decree on Amendments to Certa-
in Presidential Decrees (Decree Number: 85), which was published in the Official Gazette dated
29 October 2021 and numbered 31643 and entered into force.
In this context, the duties of “combating desertification and erosion” were added to the organi-
zation, duties and authorities of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change,
the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion was included among the central
units of the Ministry, and the Directorate of Climate Change, which was established with the same
Decree as the General Directorate of Meteorology, was included among the institutions affiliated
to the Ministry.
