climate change with a holistic approach, as well as the energy, industry, agriculture,
transportation, waste, buildings, land use and land use change and forestry
sectors that cause greenhouse gas emissions. In this scope, we aim to achieve
the emission reduction of 75 percent in the aluminum sector, 99 percent in the
steel sector and 93 percent in the cement sector by 2053 with our Low-Carbon
Road Maps in the industrial sector, in addition to reaching zero emissions in the
fertilizer sector. Through the implementation of the regulations related to the
Emission Trading System and the National Green Taxonomy, we will accelerate
the structural transformation required by the green development revolution and
continue to develop financing mechanisms and grant programs for climate-
friendly investments. We will expand our sink areas with new projects besides the
existing ones such as national gardens and ecological corridors, which have an
important place in the combat against climate change.
We successfully realise the Zero Waste Project, which serves as a model to the
world, a breakthrough in climate diplomacy, conducted under the auspices of
Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, and we extend this project from local to global. Along with
our economic achievements, we carry out social awareness activities and lead to a
great transformation in mindsets. We aim to increase the recovery rate in Türkiye
to 60 percent by 2035 through National Deposit Management System launched
recently. We raised the reuse rate of treated wastewater from 1.2 percent in 2018
to 5.5 percent, targeting a further increase of 15 percent by 2030. We develop
the mechanisms supporting the energy sector by means of the Certificate for
Green Transformation in Industry. Moreover, we commit to increasing the share of
renewable energy in the energy sector to 65 percent by 2035.
We have built 3.3 million houses on the basis of social housing and urban
transformation works in the last 22 years by respecting the environment and
being compatible with the zero waste. We continue to construct 452 thousand
new houses and workplaces in the earthquake-affected areas by making them
comply with climate change.
We also adopt a strong will and a determined policy to combat desertification
and erosion. For this purpose, we have prepared our new National Strategy and
Action Plan to Combat Desertification covering the period 2024-2030. As Türkiye,
we have reduced the amount of soil carried away by erosion to 130 million tons
annually as a result of the improvement activities such as afforestation, erosion
control, rehabilitation of degraded forest areas, pasture reclamation. This figure
was previously around 500 million tons annually. We will plant 331.000 more
saplings on a total area of 272 hectares in Kırşehir, Çankırı, Kayseri, Ankara, Konya,
Kastamonu, Kahramanmaraş and Burdur, including only in non-forest areas by
the end of 2024 in Türkiye which is among the countries with the highest rate of
afforestation in the world.
