Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics are
applied in disaster risk analysis and disaster management processes. Big data
analysis and machine learning are used for information provision and decision
support systems in disaster prediction, emergency response and recovery
processes.
Seismic isolators, which are started to be addressed with the Kahramanmaraş
earthquakes on February 6, 2023, are also one of the current technologies
used in constructing earthquake-resilient buildings. Seismic base isolation is a
technology that protects structures from earthquakes and its harmful effects.
Seismic base isolation is a very effective system that avoids earth tremor
propagating into the building. Seismic insulators placed in the upper part
of the load-bearing columns of buildings near the foundation prevent the
building from swaying during an earthquake. Thus, buildings can survive the
earthquake without any damage. It ensures that people and properties inside
the building as well as the load-bearing systems such as columns, shear walls
and beams can get over the earthquake without any damage. Figure 12 shows
the rocking models of buildings with conventional (rigid) and seismic isolation;
Figure 13 indicates the foot columns of a building with seismic isolation.
