Accordingly, particularly SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Society and SDG13:
Climate Action are directly related to climate resilience, but other SDGs are
closely related to making cities inclusive, safe and sustainable. In this respect,
SDGs are defined as an undividable and interrelated body. SDG11 Synthesis
Report prepared by The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat) also
points to this relation, as also shown in Figure 2 (UNDP, 2022b; UN Habitat,
2018).
Figure 2: The Relationship of SDG to with other SDGs (UN Habitat, 2018: 10)
SDGs’ aims are given in Figure 3. As mentioned above, taking actions
towards climate change will contribute greatly to the process of achieving
goals and providing climate resilience and sustainability in the cities. However,
at this point, it should not be forgotten that there is a bidirectional relationship
beteween cities and climate change, which has reached a level of crisis. The
activities in the cities are a source of climate change. On the one hand, cities
are effected most by the negative consequences of climate change. On the
other hand, they are the key to a solution to issues connected with climate
change. This is because cities are the centers of civilizations, investments, and
innovations (EEA, 2016: 6).
