Climate Change And Türkiye
Due to the natural climate change in those ages, glaciers melted and receded
to the Polar Regions. Natural climate change caused the emergence of radical
changes in human life, nutrition, shelter and security. It is beneficial to develop
plans and projects for future climate change, which seems to have started
today, and is likely to increase in the future years due to major anthropogenic
causes.
Climate has some uncertain events, as there are short term (1-3 days) as well
as long-term (at least 10 years, preferably 30 years) meteorological weather
conditions. The climate change today depends on the variations between
these two components. Short-term meteorological events and effects of the
long-term climate change are essential for socio-economic life. Based on the
climate changes, it can be concluded that of the meteorological events have a
chaotic nature and humans are not able to accurately predict climate changes.
It is only possible to reach general conclusions based on the trends referring
to the average behavioral pattern of the climate.
The natural changes in climate had been influencing the socio-economical
and daily lives of people since 150 years. However, today, human beings have
a great impact on their surroundings as well as the climate. Such influences
were in smaller scales in previous centuries, but even the accumulated
effect observed during those centuries were too small to be felt by human
beings. Especially with the industrial revolutions that started in the 19th
century, scientific and technologic innovations emerged to improve human
welfare. However, these activities resulted in the emissions of GHG into the
atmosphere. From the 1970s on, people got to realize that these revolutions
had a negative impact on all natural phenomena. From those days on, climate
change has gained more importance for human survival with its upward trend.
Various national and international meetings are held in order to discuss the
trend of the climate change mitigation and adaptation to produce solutions
to reduce its effects through precautions and eliminate it in the long term
(towards 2050) or make it less harmful. One of the leading organizations is
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) held by UNESCO
and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in collaboration in 1989. As
part of this panel, first organized meeting took place in 1989, and later in
the years, 1996, 2001, 2007, 2014 and 2021. After these meetings, reports
were written to inform the whole world about climate change, the common
problem of politicians, relevant institutions and individuals, and its possible
consequences in the medium and long terms. IPCC presents climate change
reports considering the local suggestions and offers made by governments
and their subsidiary public institutions, which in turn are required to apply the
views and proposals of IPCC.
