Minister Kurum met with COP26 President Sharma

“We will achieve the 2053 Net Zero Emission Target”
Minister Kurum, in his meeting with COP26 President
Alok Sharma, stating that Türkiye will reach the 2053
net zero emission target, said that they are a party to
the Paris Agreement and announced to the world that
they will take decisive steps in this regard. Stating that
they announced the National Contribution Statement
at COP27, Kurum said, “We are increasing our target of
reducing 21 percent from the increase given in 2015 to 41
percent by 2030”. Emphasizing that they will realize the
targets step by step with the Climate Law to be prepared,
Kurum stated that Türkiye will continue to implement all
environment-oriented projects decisively in 2023, when
th
the 100 anniversary of the Republic will be celebrated,
with an understanding that biodiversity is protected and
special environmental protection zones are increased.

Support from Slovenia to the Regional Action Centre

Minister Murat Kurum also met with the Minister of Environment
and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia, Uros Brezan,
within the framework of the COP27 program. Minister Kurum
stated that the relevant units of the Ministry of Environment,
Urbanization and Climate Change are ready to support
the Presidency of the Barcelona Convention Bureau, which
Slovenia will take over from Türkiye in December 2023, in terms
of organization and other issues. Minister Kurum stated that
the lack of sufficient participation at the ministerial level in the
organization was not enough for the sincerity of the countries
on this issue, adding that this situation applies to the meetings
held in both Naples and Antalya. Minister Kurum stated that
since the environmental issue is an issue that transcends
borders, all countries should act together and take concrete
actions, and asked for support from the Minister of Slovenia
regarding the proposed Regional Action Center and COP31
candidacy to be established in Türkiye. Slovenian Minister
Brezan stated that there are currently 7 Regional Centers
operating under the Barcelona Convention and that they will
support the center to be established in Türkiye.

Türkiye Will Contribute to the Zoning and Planning
Studies of Azerbaijan

Minister Murat Kurum, Chairman of the State Committee
on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar
Guliyev and Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural
Resources Firdovsi Aliyev discussed urban planning,
environmental and infrastructure investments. Particular
emphasis was placed on the zoning and planning of the
places that survived the occupation.
