Only with a holistic Marine Science approach will it be possible to
understand the effects on the Marmara Sea, to rehabilitate the ecosystem
of Marmara Sea before it is too late, and to propose solutions for it. In this
context, the current situation of the Sea of Marmara has been revealed, and
studies are ongoing in detail for the possible ecological problems to be faced
in the Marmara Sea. The studies for understanding and creating the solution
proposals still continue in the scope of MARMOD Phase II Project by means
of the observation and model simulation results regarding the main reasons
of deoxygenation problem in the Marmara Sea and this basic change. It is
quite essential, for Marmara Sea, to decrease the non-point and point inputs,
to regulate the fishery activities with an ecosystem based approach and to
implement the science-based Marmara Sea Action Plan prepared with the
participation of a range of stakeholders, with patience and determination.
Upon the completion of the project by the end of 2023 required load reduction
proposals will be presented for the waste waters in the scope of appropriate
regulations, and this will contribute to the ecologically-based improvement of
quality of water in Marmara Sea.
